Invariably from our childhood we have heard some thing regularly is Get up early in the morning to be successful or the phrase “early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”. But no one has ever explained how this happens.
In this post I explain the neuro-chemistry of how it benefits any human being in becoming successful by getting up early and following a set routine.
Always remember nature always believes in abundance and in fact has an abundance of everything so is the happiness in abundance it is only if we can understand the same.
We all are aware from our child hood days that our body has chemical secretion from time to time depending on various reaction our brain goes through depending on the situation It faces.
Here will be primarily be discussing on :
- Cortisol
- Dopamine
- Serotonin
- Human Growth Hormone
Cortisol is a fear hormone which is normal released when we are asleep and when amygdala kicks into high gear as we exit what’s familiar and try something new. The vagus nerve gets provoked, the fear hormone cortisol gets released.
Dopamine is the inspirational fuel of the brain.
Serotonin is the beautiful pleasure drug of the brain
Human Growth Hormone HGH, is produced in the pituitary gland of the brain and is important for healthy tissues in your body, a strong functioning metabolism and a long lifespan. Increased levels of HGH Raise your moods, cognition, energy levels and lean muscle mass, while reducing your cravings through the regulation of leptin and ghrelin.
Now that you have got a basic understanding of the terms we shall come across here onwards it will be easy to understand.
Getting up when the entire world is sleeping before the sunrise gives you a time in solitude which helps you to improve yourself. The first thing you should do after you wake up is at least 20 Minutes of rigorous exercise which could be any nature but the objective is to sweat as much as possible. It could be brisk walking, or Jogging or anything which you enjoy as long as you sweat we are okay.
When you exercise first thing in the morning the release of cortisol is reduced , the release of Dopamine and Serotonin improves and the HGH is released once this happens imagine your fear is in control, you are inspired , in a pleasurable mood and your energy levels improved.
How on earth the regulation of these hormones help you be successful will be the next question on your mind .
When you have to make progression towards success it means you have to move out of familiar areas and this will generate fear it is the reduction of the release of cortisol which will reduce the fear which comes along with moving out of comfort zone.
You need to be always charged up to not only move in untreaded areas but also to try something new this is done by serotonin and dopamine.
The HGH which I mentioned earlier is also released remember 75 % of the HGH is released when you sleep, however when you get up and exercise the additional HGH which is released washes your brain and keeps your mood upright and supercharged .
Always keep in mind the calibrated release of all the hormones and chemical in the body is what makes a person happy and successful.
While I am mentioning getting up early as one of the keys to happiness and successful it is equally important that you are not sleep deprived to be successful. Human body needs at least 5 cycles of 90 minutes sleep each that would mean roughly seven and half hours.
Always be aware that sleep deprivation as well as over sleeping , more then 9 hours a night both are known to shorten our visit to the planet.
Remember , this was the first pocket of the three pocket routine.
The second pocket is all about clearing and charging your sub conscious mind by means of journaling. You should start venting out your anger , grudges in the journal while venting out develop a habit of forgiving all those against whom you have the grudges and anger.
With a clear and lighter self now express your gratitude for whatever good is happening in your life. By doing this you develop an habit of talking about what is available in your life and not what is missing.
The third pocket is for some self development and spend sometime reading some good books on self improvement or listen to some podcasts or you can do meditation.
The entire habit installation process will take a time of 66 days . Divided in to three steps of 22 days each as found in new research,
Stage | Step | Feeling |
1 | Destruction | Hard |
2 | Installation | Messy |
3 | Integration | Glorious |
In the process there will be situation where you will feel like quitting but remember persistency is the keys to success.
Once you develop this morning routine and install the same and integrate in your daily routine you will reach a point of automaticity and your progression towards success will start. This is a journey which will take its time it will not come overnight but if you integrate the routine in your life
Do you know the space shuttle uses more fuel in the first sixty seconds of take off then it takes in the entire orbit of the earth . This is because it has to overcome the obstacles created by the gravitational force off the earth . In a similar manner the first 22 + 22 days will be difficult as you have to destruct the old habits and install. Then once the routine is integrated it is just like a shuttle moving in the orbit in a seamless effortless basis.
Always remember as one of the members of our tribe Robin Sharma Says “own your morning and elevate your life!”
All the modern craze is because of the likes of mine motivational speakers we should not forget that the Indian spiritual world right from the time of the creation of the humans has always insisted and practised the early morning routine.
