As the title suggests, it takes tough times to bring out the best of you as well as the sailor. When the going is smooth your talents and skills is the least exploited.
To sharpen your skills and talents we all need to move to rough seas. Since not all the readers here are sailors you need to accept the new challenges coming your way as new opportunities to prove your mettle.
You are always faced with a challenge to either opt for the easier thing and the tougher ones. If you opt for the tougher one it would definitely help you to perform at your best. While you would always give your best and even if you do not achieve the expected results you will always be rewarded for the acceptance of the challenge.
After having failed for 10000 times Thomas Edison had said “I have not failed 10,000 times—I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”
This is what I feel is the best way to face rough sea.
All the top leaders of today in their respective fields have faced tough times Whether it Be A P J Abdul Kalam, Sachn Tendulkar, Saina Nehwal or you look at Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos and the list would may be fill up endless number of pages.
What they did not think was they were not busy finding the ways not to fail. They spent time and energy finding how t be successful.
You can always ask me what difference is there. The answer is there is similarity. The Late Sri APJ Abdul Kalam would not have become the missile man if he feared failure. The same is true in case of all of us.
We only need to be prepared to take new challenges which will bring us to the edges of our talent and that is when we will taste Success.
A detailed learning of this can be had in the book The Practice the author is Seth Godin and he writes daily blogs.
One of my old post is also on a similar line.
